    Hello!
I am thinking about installing anti-burglar bars on windows because the burglary rate is rising in my neighborhood. What type of bars would you guys recommend? Where is it better to install them?
    Thanks.

Hi Jeff! I would recommend swing-away bars. They are convenient for emergency escape and for cleaning the windows.

    How are they secured?

They are usually  provided with a quick-release mechanism, which is accessible only from inside.

Permanent security bars might work for you if you want to keep them constantly on your windows

I have a couple of windows in my basement, so I guess I can use permanent ones for smaller windows and swing-away bars for the biggest window for emergency egress

That you should need a strong and reliable type of door and locking. Try this shop http://caldwells.com/sliding-closet-door-hardware, they offer the best and strong door type.
