SUMMARY OF EXPERIENCE
Actively involved in front end planning of all the HSE and Security requirements of petrochemical construction projects. Provide the client, contractors and employees with technical expertise and counsel in health, safety and environmental matters. This includes the development of a comprehensive HSE manual that complies with the OHS Act, customer and corporate requirements. The R13.5 Billion Project consisted of 9 modules of which Poly X consisted of $200 000 000 of all disciplines of work including a 3 month shutdown, buildings, M&P, E&I and a huge $30 000 000 Automated warehouse.
During this time frame, the combined number of construction contractors (31) and the safety personnel under my management totaled 185 men. This HSE manual takes into consideration all the HSE aspects of the project to create an incident \ accident free environment as well as risk identification, man power requirements, development of labour camps and other temporary construction facilities.
Development of a compulsory induction \ orientation course that covers all HSE aspects that might be encountered during the course of the project.
Development and implementation of a security plan and system that include employee and vehicle access permits, security control facilities, fencing, signage and foreign substance control.
Active involvement in the contractors tenders process to ensure absolute awareness and compliance with HSE requirements for the project. This includes a full review of the successful contractors documentation before commencement of work to ensure compliance with HSE requirements.
Define, implement and administer a safety culture that includes all the elements of Health, Safety and Environmental initiatives.

This project is managed by Fluor on behalf of the client (SASOL). Responsible to the Senior construction manager for meeting and implementing HSE requirements among the 13 major construction contractors and 1300 workers at site.

Supervised safety officers, safety reps and admin assistant for reporting.

This project comprised of a new N-Butanol Plant and a 3-week SCI Plant shut down. The actual manpower was just over 2500 men.
The N-Butanol plant facilitates Sasols planned diversification into the downstream derivatives on N-Butanol. These derivatives include N-Butanol acetate and N-Butanol Acrylate. The Acrylic Acid plants produce 80 000 tons of Acrylic Acid, 80 000 tons of Butyl Acrylate, 35 000 Ethyl Acrylate and 10 000 tons of Glacial Acrylate per year.
Responsibility for all OBL and Offsite safety matters concerning the construction work at the Sasolburg portion of this project defining, implementing and administering a safety culture that includes all the elements of Health Safety and environmental initiatives.
