Important Characteristics and Features of underground Locators
|
- Inductive Mode – through the soil
- Inductive Clamp Mode – clamp around the target line
- Direct Connection or Conductive Mode – clip onto the target line
- Magnetic Mode – ferrous metal detection
- Live Cable Mode – energized power line (Magnetic Mode in the MAC)
|
- Radio Frequency (RF) usually above 10 kHz, and the 80 kHz and above are usually called High Frequency (HF)
- l Audio Frequency (AF) usually 10 kHz & below:
10 – 8 kHz usually called he Mid-range frequencies
571 – 512 Hz called the Low Frequencies (LF) |
- RF frequencies are limited to power by FCC – limits signals to fairly short distance.
- AF frequencies can use high power – driver signals farther.
|
Receiver Weight & Ergonomics |
- Needs to be lightweight.
- l Needs to be balanced.
|
- RF & AF range 12 to 15 feet
- Magnetic range depending on mass & orientation of target, up to 20 feet
- Depth reporting within ” + or -” 5 to 10%
|
- Gain Control – Automatic – or -Manual
- Push Button Depth Reporting- or – Triangulation
- LCD or Analogue Meter- or – Audio only
- Controls – Key Pad or Knobs- or – Combination thereof
